This is called Beulah's mandala. I colored this one in while working on
the concrete labyrinth in Ruston, LA. Beulah was the owner of the
Bread and Breakfast that was home for the 12 days our crew was in
Ruston birthing the labyrinth. Beulah was a gracious and loving
hostess to our crew and made us feel at home. Beulah is an artist
and has some lovely pieces of artwork in her home, much of it from
Bali and the far East. After seeing the pieces in her home this one
seemed to fit right in and I knew when I began working on it this would
become my thank you gift to Beulah for her wonderful southern
hospitality. It was such an honor to give the completed drawing to
Beulah.
This mandala is a design that I photocopied from a book called
Coloring Mandalas For Insight, Healing, and Self Expression by
Susanne F. Fincher. The designs in this book are reproduceable and
they are in black and white. I like to work on these types of mandalas
when I travel as a way to wind down and relax before going to bed as I
don't really like to watch t.v. when away from home.
One of the things I have learned is that some artwork is not meant to stay with its creator, the healing and the
effectiveness often comes when we let go of our creations and share them with others. It is a visual reminder to not
become attached to "things" and a good lesson in letting go. So far I have only given away 3 mandalas that I have
created, being with Beulah has inspired me to create mandalas that will be sold so that my gifts and talents may be
shared with others.
